Co-organised by the University of Nicosia and the National Technical University of Athens

Technology giant, UBER, becomes the latest organisation to join the growing international support for the exciting M4 Forecasting Competition, organised by the Institute For the Future (IFF) at the University of Nicosia (UNIC), with the support of the Forecasting & Strategy Unit at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

M-Competitions are the brainchild of Professor Spyros Makridakis, a pioneer in the field and, for many, the father of forecasting. The M4 is the latest in this revolutionary initiative, which began almost four decades ago, with M-Competitions taking place in 1982, 1993, and 2000.

A Professor at UNIC and the Director of IFF, Makridakis and his three previous competitions (M1, M2, and M3) have substantially contributed to improving forecasting accuracy and informing practitioners on the most appropriate forecasting method to use for their specific needs. To get precise and compelling answers, the M4 Competition will utilise 100,000 real-life series and will incorporate all major forecasting methods, including those based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as the more traditional statistical ones.

The M4 will award a series of cash prizes to the winners, as well as honorary prizes for the method that achieves the most accurate confidence intervals forecasts. As part of this, the global transportation technology company will be awarding an “UBER Student Prize” of €5,000 to the student with the Most Accurate Forecasting Method.
